GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Residents in the small western Colorado town of New Castle are mourning the unexpected death of their police chief.

Acting chief Tony Pagni tells the Glenwood Springs Post Independent (https://bit.ly/NkI5Bx ) that 52-year-old Chris Sadler was taken to a hospital at about noon Saturday and pronounced dead a short time later. Sadler’s cause of death has not been released.

Mayor Frank Breslin called Sadler an honorable man who was respected by his staff. The mayor recalled how he required his officers to spend at least one hour on foot patrol each shift so they could interact and build better relationships with the community.

Sadler had been with the department for 18 years. He started out as a patrol officer and was the chief for the majority of those years.
