WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police are investigating a southwestern Illinois police officer’s shooting of a man suspected of burglarizing a market.

State police Capt. James Morrisey says the Washington Park officer wounded the man before dawn Tuesday inside the St. Clair Food & Liquor store.

Morrisey says the officer responded to the closed business after its burglar alarm sounded.

Morrisey says the officer later entered the store and confronted the suspect.

The alleged burglar was taken to a St. Louis hospital. His medical condition wasn’t immediately available.
