FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Democratic Rep. Lester Branham, Jr., of Lake City says six terms in the Statehouse are enough and it’s time for him to step aside.

The Morning News of Florence reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1nDuwxT ) that the 81-year-old minister says he has loved every moment of representing the people of southern Florence County and western Marion County.

Branham says his mission has been improving higher education while serving on the House Education and Public Works Committee and the Higher Education Subcommittee.

Branham says he is ready to pass the torch to Roger Kirby of Lake City, who filed for the seat as a Democrat on Tuesday.

Kirby owns Kirby Reality and Construction in Lake City. Filing for the seat continues to March 30.
