WINSLOW, Ariz. (AP) - A $3.8 million project to reconstruct bridges on Interstate 40 in Winslow starts next week.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says six east- and westbound bridges will undergo work that includes replacing decks and paving. Improvements also will be made to some guardrails and drainages.

The bridges will be under construction at the same time. The work on a three-mile stretch of the interstate is expected to be complete this fall.

During the construction, lanes will be narrowed and drivers will be asked to slow down.

The work also will shut down Maple Street, which runs under I-40, for sixth months and lead to some intermittent closures of Transcon Lane.

The project begins Monday.
