PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia man has been ordered to stand trial in connection with the stabbing death of a retired Villanova University professor in her apartment.
Forty-two-year-old Jose Diaz is charged with murder, robbery and related offenses for the Dec. 9 death of 69-year-old Carol Ambruster.
The former assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics was found by her roommate in the kitchen of their apartment in the Germantown section of the city. Police say Diaz was a handyman who had access to the victim’s apartment on the day she was murdered.
Defense attorney Benjamin Cooper said after Tuesday’s preliminary hearing that his client is innocent.
Prosecutors say they have DNA and blood evidence linking Diaz to the slaying.
Diaz will be arraigned April 15.
