WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) - A new, half-million-dollar playground in West Jordan will be named after a 6-year-old girl who was kidnapped from her home and killed in 2012.

The City Council settled earlier this month on the name Sierra Newbold Playground. It will be located at Ron Wood Park.

Work on the playground is set to begin in April, and an official ribbon cutting is scheduled for May.

Plans call for a rubberized surface that accommodates children in wheelchairs, slides, swings, a spider web climber and other features.

Funds come largely from park impact fees, which are paid by developers.
