EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island say the acting police commissioner in Nassau County rear-ended a vehicle that caused a three-car, chain-reaction accident that injured a woman.

Police say Commissioner Thomas Krumpter “was following too closely” when he struck the car in front of him on Elwood Road in East Northport last Wednesday.

That drive, Karen Haar of East Northport, then struck the car in front of her. She complained of neck pain and was treated at a hospital and released. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

Newsday (https://bit.ly/1pynZQR ) says Krumpter was not injured.

He was not issued any summonses. Police say they don’t typically issue tickets unless they observe an infraction.

Nassau police said Krumpter was not available to comment Tuesday. They say Krumpter assisted the driver at the scene.
