PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - Work to install artificial turf has begun at the football stadium the east Alabama town of Phenix City.

City Manager Wallace Hunter said Pittsburgh-based ProGrass LLC has begun grading the surface of Garrett-Harrison Stadium and should be finished with the project in less than two months.

City officials say they expect the artificial surface to save money because maintenance, fertilizer and other costs will be eliminated or reduced.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1l6PPDA) that the ProGrass surface is also in place at Troy University, Jacksonville State University, Prattville High and Colquitt County High in Georgia.
