SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane police fatally shot a man Wednesday night outside a north Spokane home.

Police spokeswoman Monique Cotton described the man as a suspect in an armed robbery earlier this week at a Baskin Robbins.

The Spokesman-Review reports that Chief Frank Straub says officers were in the process of getting a search warrant for the house when the man inside spotted them and began talking to them through a screen door.

The chief says the man came outside but was refusing officers’ commands. According to KHQ-TV, Straub says the man made a threatening move and that’s when officers opened fire. The chief says a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Witnesses say they heard multiple gunshots.

The Spokane County medical examiner will identify the man.

Eleven armed robberies have been reported in Spokane in the last month.
