DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport police officer is recovering for several days after being bit by a dog while on the job.

Police say 39-year-old Officer Roberto Luna responded Wednesday night to a report of a loose dog chasing a person.

Luna and another officer arrived at a home and located the dog, which went into a fenced area. Luna proceeded to get out of the car and communicate with an occupant at the home about whether the dog was under control.

At some point, the pit bull terrier mix jumped over a fence and bit Luna on the leg.

The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/P9ttGe ) Luna was taken to a hospital and received 11 stitches. He will be off duty for several days. Animal control officials took the dog into custody.
