PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Two long-time Pierre structures are slated to be torn down.

KCCR-AM reports that separate demolitions of the old city auditorium and the old Hughes County Jail will begin next week. Both will take several days to complete.

The auditorium was built in the 1930s and was a major site for community events, school basketball games and gubernatorial inaugurals. It has been closed since 2011 because of structural issues.

The old Hughes County Jail was built in 1968 and is located next to the county courthouse. It was shuttered in 2010 when the new regional jail opened in east Pierre.
