VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) - A surprise $1,000 donation could revive a proposal to restore Art Deco stenciling discovered in a southwestern Indiana library during a remodeling project.

Knox County Public Library’s board of directors cited budget constraints when they recently rejected a $1,000 plan to restore stenciling dating to 1919 that was found behind an old medicine cabinet during the remodeling of a restroom in the Vincennes library.

Library director Emily Bunyan tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial (https://bit.ly/1lsBx2Y ) the $1,000 check she received Thursday would allow the stenciling to be replicated in the room without touching the library’s limited funds.

She says the library board will decide whether to spend the donation on the stenciling restoration. If the board decides not to, Bunyan says the check will be returned to the donor.
