MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - Selectmen have authorized design work to begin on the proposed replacement for the city’s East Michigan Avenue fire station.

The Enterprise-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1hihvok ) the existing station is the only one in east McComb.

The selectmen approved a $40,000 design order with the Neel-Schaffer firm.

Fire Chief Stephen Adams has repeatedly asked the board to replace the structurally unsound station.

The new 3,750-square-foot station is expected to cost about $450,000.
