BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Police in Bismarck say a man was killed by a BNSF train over the weekend.

Police Sgt. Mark Buschena tells The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1ghKmoi ) that the train’s engineer saw the man lying on the tracks in a fetal position early Sunday morning. Buschena says the color of the man’s jacket initially led the engineer to believe a piece of cardboard was on the tracks. The engineer was unable to stop the train in time to avoid hitting the man.

Buschena says the train was travelling around 25 mph at the time of the incident.

No identification was found on the man’s body, which was taken to the medical examiner’s office.
