LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Police in a Louisville suburb asked a club promoter to cancel a teen gathering because of concerns about a recent outbreak of violence the previous weekend.

A monthly Sunday night teen party at Club Azucar in Plainview was called off.

The party’s organizer, Matt “DJ Phat Matt” Thieneman, told The Courier-Journal (https://cjky.it/1fFNpaz ) that police pushed him to postpone or cancel the Sunday night event. He agreed to shut it down.

Jeffersontown Police Chief Rick Sanders says Sunday’s party was just too close to last week’s incidents in downtown Louisville. A large group of as many as 80 teenagers caused damage and six people were sent to the hospital with injuries.

Thieneman says usually 150 to 200 teens show up to the party.
