COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs travelers will once again be able to fly directly to Phoenix.

Low cost carrier Allegiant Air announced Tuesday that it will add non-stop flights from Colorado Springs to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport starting May 15.

Colorado Springs hasn’t had any service to Phoenix since Frontier Airlines ended its flights April 7.

The Gazette (https://bit.ly/ML5ko9) reports that airport officials hope the new Phoenix flights and Alaska Airlines’ new service to Seattle will help stop a steep decline in passengers over the past five years.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant serves about 100 mostly small cities and vacation destinations including Florida and Hawaii.
