Three third-graders at a California elementary school were caught smoking pot in the school’s bathroom last week.

On Thursday morning, two 8-year-olds and a 9-year-old at Sonora Elementary School were caught smoking by another student, who immediately told school officials, a Fox News affiliate reported.

The children were questioned by police officers and later released to their parents.

Sonora Elementary Superintendent Leigh Shampain confirmed the incident but would not discuss what consequences the students might face.

“Shocked. To be in third grade and have their own pipe,” parent Linda Rodriguez told the news station. “I think they should be expelled, but I also think they should follow it further to where they found (the marijuana).”

“It was bad because they are little kids and it shouldn’t happen,” said seventh-grader Mackenzie Morfoot.

While it is still unclear what disciplinary measures were taken, students say they have not seen the children on campus since, the station said.
