BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - The Boulder City Council has given unanimous approval to an ordinance that will require bear-resistant cans on the west side of the city.

The new law approved Wednesday applies to commercial properties and apartment buildings, and might be expanded to other areas.

The Daily Camera reports (https://tinyurl.com/mul3fyx ), four bears were killed this year in Boulder by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and some residents say the city needed to move beyond just education and get serious about enforcement.

The fine for unsecured trash will increase to $250 from $100.
