LAKE PARK, Iowa (AP) - A fountain aimed at beautifying the area and battling algae outbreaks has been installed in a cove at Silver Lake in northwest Iowa.

Sioux City television station KTIV says (https://bit.ly/1gOmKyW ) the town of Lake Park held a ceremony Tuesday night marking installation of the fountain, which has been named Silver Spring. It is expected to generate water movement that will help break up summer formations of blue-green algae.

Dickinson County Supervisor Paul Johnson says the fountain is “a functional step forward to improving the overall quality of Silver Lake.”

The fountain will be lit with red, white and blue lights from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July.
