FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - The search for a sailboat missing in the Gulf of Mexico has been called off.

The U.S. Coast Guard says it received a report via radio on Tuesday evening stating that he was in a sailboat that was taking on water about a mile west of Sanibel Island. The man said he was wearing a life jacket and that the boat had capsized before losing communication with officials.

Crews form the Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office searched for the man but found no signs of a missing boat or the man. Also, they said there had been no reports of a missing boater.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Coast Guard at 727-824-7506.
