PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Opening statements are underway in the murder trial of a 23-year-old man who is accused of conspiring with four others in a shooting that left a 12-year-old girl dead.

Luis “Fat Boy” Gonzalez faces numerous charges including murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the shooting last June 15 at a graduation party outside the Hartford Park Housing complex.

Aynis (EYE’-nees) Vargas Felix was shot to death. Three women with her were shot but survived.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1tnTctV ) prosecutors had just begun outline a gang dispute they believe led to the shooting, when the case was interrupted by a smoke alarm Wednesday.
