MUNDELEIN, Ill. (AP) - A 10-year-old boy is recovering a day after being struck in the head by a storefront awning that fell at a strip mall in northeastern Illinois.

Cameron Beers was standing outside an air gun and hobby shop in Mundelein Sunday when the awning came crashing down.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and needed 18 stitches to repair a gash in his head.

Another boy was hit but received treatment at the scene and was released.

The owner of King David’s Airsoft and Hobbies says the awning was old, rusting and in bad condition.

David Tsao tells the (Waukegan) News-Sun that he rents the shop space from a landlord. He says village building inspectors visited the mall shortly after the incident.
