GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a fisherman who fell into Lake Lanier is in the intensive care unit at a north Georgia hospital.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Sgt. Mike Burgamy tells the Times of Gainesville (https://bit.ly/1nw9WgC ) the 27-year-old man was on Lake Lanier Monday morning with his father when he fell into the water. Burgamy says their boat got close to a bridge piling and the man fell into the water when he tried pushing the boat away from the bridge’s structure.

Burgamy says the man’s father jumped in the water and pulled him back onto the boat and two nearby women on kayaks helped perform first aid.

The man was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and his identity has not been released.
