KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Knoxville say a man fired shots along Interstate 40 West prompting the shutdown of the thoroughfare.

Multiple media outlets reported that police received a call at about 9:09 a.m. Saturday of a man on foot walking along the interstate.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the man fired shots along the road.

Knoxville police are asking drivers to find alternate routes such as I-640.

The incident remained under investigation Saturday.
