ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man says he stopped his car to pick up what he though was maybe a few dollars lying in the middle of the road.

Blake Sherrer of Alexander City says he was stunned to find an inch-thick stack of cash containing $8,000. He took the money to the police, figuring the rightful owner would come looking for it.

WSFA-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1o0mIan ) the owner of the cash turned out to be Sherrer’s neighbor, William Whatley. He says he was on his way to the bank to deposit the money Thursday but “I just put it on top of my vehicle and forgot all about it.”

Whatley said he prayed for grace to let his lost money go. When he got the cash back, he gave Sherrer a $200 reward.
