BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An early blast of winter weather has prompted freeze warnings across parts of central and northern Alabama.

The National Weather Service says temperatures Saturday night into early Sunday are expected to plunge into the 20s. Affected cities include Birmingham, Talladega, Anniston, Huntsville, Cullman and Florence.

Forecasters say sub-freezing temperatures could kill crops and other plants that are sensitive to cold.

Temperatures during the day Saturday were forecast to hover in the high 40s to low 50s.
