DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Jury deliberations will continue over the weekend in the federal trial against a former Des Moines police officer accused of using excessive force during an arrest last year.

The Des Moines Register says (https://dmreg.co/1wSo3AD ) the 12-member jury must unanimously decide whether 38-year-old Colin Boone is guilty of kicking 29-year-old Orville Hill in the face, then leaving the incident out of an official report. The jury deliberated for eight hours Friday.

Boone, who was fired in May 2013 for inappropriate use of force, could serve up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Hill testified he crashed his vehicle into a barrier in Des Moines after having a seizure.

Videos show Boone, who came to the scene, kicking at Hill while he was struggling on the ground with four officers.
