KNOX, Ind. (AP) - Relatives of two women who are among seven women police say a Gary man has confessed to killing have gathered at memorial services to remember their lives.

WNDU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1s3dJS4 ) family members of 36-year-old Kristine Williams gathered Saturday afternoon for a memorial service at the M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox.

Another service was held in East Chicago for 19-year-old Afrikka Hardy.

Police say 43-year-old Darren Vann has confessed to killing Hardy in a Hammond motel and six other women, including Williams, whose bodies were found in abandoned houses in Gary.

Police say Vann confessed to those killings after he led officers to the bodies throughout Lake County. He’s been charged in the strangulation deaths of Hardy and 35-year-old Anith Jones and is expected back in court Jan. 9.
