MULBERRY, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say a Moore County couple has been charged in the death of their newborn child after the baby’s remains were found in a fire pit.

According to WTVF-TV (https://bit.ly/1uhJTzL ), the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says 27-year-old Robert Roper and 21-year-old Carol Michelle Roper were indicted Friday on first-degree murder charges in their baby’s death.

Authorities began investigating the couple in September after they received information about the unreported death of their child.

TBI officials say the baby was delivered at their home in Mulberry back in August. The baby’s remains were later found in a fire pit and ditch located on and near their property.

The Ropers have been booked into the Moore County Jail on $1 million bond.
