CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Charles City teen accused of displaying a gun near Charles City High School is seeking to have the case transferred to juvenile court.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1wStH5K ) that the 16-year-old student has been charged in Floyd County District Court with assault on a peace officer and carrying a weapon onto school property, both felonies.

A hearing on defense attorney Nellie O’Mara’s motion to transfer the case to juvenile court will be held Dec. 9.

Police say the boy displayed the gun to officers who found him Oct. 16 on the Charlie Western Recreational Trail near the high school football bleachers. He was detained without incident and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The boy is being held without bond in a juvenile detention center.
