KIRBY, Texas (AP) - A San Antonio-area woman has been charged manslaughter after police say her boyfriend was fatally shot while teaching her how to fire a gun.

Bexar (bayr) County detention records show 43-year-old Raquel Ramos of Kirby was being held Saturday with bond set at $100,000.

Online court records do not list an attorney for Ramos, whose 37-year-old boyfriend died after being shot early Friday while at the woman’s home.

Authorities believe alcohol played a role in the shooting. The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, had the shotgun to teach Ramos to defend herself.

Kirby police Chief Kevin Bois says the woman told investigators she had never fired a gun before and her boyfriend supposedly was teaching her safe firearms handling.
