DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say multiple fire departments are battling a blaze at an auto parts store in Des Moines.

Sgt. Brandon Bracelin, public information officer for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, says the fire near the intersection of Interstate 80 and 35 was reported Monday afternoon. About six fire departments were actively trying to contain the fire as of 6 p.m.

Bracelin says one person has been injured and was sent to a hospital, but additional information was not available.

The fire caused heavy smoke in the air. Air quality control officials have been sent to the scene. Nearby residents have been instructed to stay inside to avoid the smoke.
