WASHINGTON (AP) - A former Georgetown University student who pleaded guilty to having the toxin ricin in his dorm room has been sentenced to a year in prison.

Twenty-year-old Daniel Milzman of Bethesda, Maryland, was also ordered to complete 400 hours of community service at sentencing Monday in federal court in Washington.

According to a statement of offense, on March 17, Milzman told a dorm adviser that he had made ricin in his room. Prosecutors say the next day, law enforcement officers found a small plastic bag containing ricin in a desk in Milzman’s room, where he said it could be found.
