PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov.-elect Gina Raimondo has told female veterans that she will work to provide every service possible to veterans transitioning into civilian life.

WPRO-AM reports (https://bit.ly/11f8PLA ) Raimondo made her first public appearance since the election for an annual “Women Warriors luncheon” Tuesday in North Kingstown.

The Veterans Day event was held to benefit the U.S. Marine CPL Holly Charette Home in Johnston, which provides transitional housing for female veterans.

Veterans shared stories of their military service. Raimondo praised the group for their sacrifice, discipline and willingness to serve.

Charette was killed in combat in Iraq in 2005. Her parents, Ed and Regina Roberts, attended the luncheon. Ed Roberts said it was extremely humbling and overwhelming.

The event was organized by veterans’ organization Operation Stand Down Rhode Island and Cumulus Media Inc.
