SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of a Suffolk man during a hunting trip.

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries spokesman Lee Walker identified the victim as 47-year-old Jeffrey Edward Sherman.

Walker tells media outlets Sherman fell from a tree stand while hunting on Monday in Greensville County.

Sherman had gone hunting with three other hunters. They found him on the ground after he failed to return to the group. Sherman died at the scene.

Walker says it’s unclear what caused Sherman to fall from the stand. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond.
