GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) - All members of a central Indiana high school’s marching band will be able to make the trip to New York City to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade thanks to some generous parents.

The trip will cost $1,250 for each Center Grove High School band member, and band director Kevin Schuessler said eight of the 166 members couldn’t afford to go, despite a raffle fundraiser and appeals for business donations.

But the mother of a band member said last week that she and her husband wanted to cover the cost for those eight students, Schuessler told the Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/10QMHpH ). He said the donors want to remain anonymous.

“I asked her if they realized this meant $10,000, and she said they did,” Schuessler said. “This is a family that has been supportive, but you wouldn’t think of them as high profile or as someone with a lot of money. It was really impressive.”

Schuessler and the band staff at the school in the southern suburbs of Indianapolis have confirmed that those eight students will have a spot on the bus, a hotel room and tickets for the shows and dinner cruise the band will be taking as part of the trip. And, of course, they get to march as one of 12 bands for the parade in Manhattan.

Schuessler said some 180 family members are joining the band for the trip, with eight buses lined up to take everyone.

“That just shows you the magnitude of the experience we are expecting to have,” he said.
