ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Laguna Pueblo man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for attempting to rob a casino in New Mexico in 2012.

Prosecutors say 51-year-old Steven Paul Tharpe also was sentenced Wednesday to three years of supervised release.

Tharpe was arrested on May 15 on an indictment charging him with attempted robbery and has been in federal custody since that time.

He was accused of trying to rob the Sky City Casino on July 21, 2012 in Acoma Pueblo.

In his plea agreement, Tharpe admitted that he attempted to rob the casino by showing a BB gun to a teller in a cashier’s cage and demanding money.
