FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - A welding firm in Florence is cutting 60 jobs by December and moving part of its manufacturing to Texas and Mexico.
The Morning News of Florence reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1zjDmTu ) that 60 employees at ESAB Welding and Cutting Products were given 60-day notices last month and their last day is Dec. 19.
ESAB vice president of human resources Dan Preest told the newspaper the change affects assemblers, machinists, project managers and material handlers. ESAB said the move relocates its gas apparatus and manual plasma products manufacturing to Denton, Texas, and Hermosillo, Mexico.
Preest says the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce has had meetings at the firm to help the employees find other jobs.
About 325 employees are remaining at the Florence site.
