ERIE, Pa. (AP) - Top NHL prospect Connor McDavid is out indefinitely after injuring his right hand in a fight during an Ontario Hockey League game.

The 17-year-old forward is projected to be the first pick in next year’s draft.

McDavid had a goal and an assist for the Erie Otters on Tuesday night before leaving the game in a 4-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads.

He was hurt during a fight with Mississauga’s Bryson Cianfrone, who appeared to slash McDavid in the second period. McDavid appeared to slam his right fist into the boards while missing Cianfrone with a punch.

Both players were given five-minute penalties for fighting, and McDavid received an additional game misconduct for removing Cianfrone’s helmet.

McDavid clutched his right hand as he skated toward the penalty box before leaving the ice. He will see a hand specialist on Wednesday for further examination.
