PARIS, Maine (AP) - A former Rumford town official has been sentenced to a month in prison after pleading guilty to possessing more than 1,000 sexually explicit images of children.

Jeremy Vashaw was sentenced Wednesday to serve 30 days of an 18-month sentence after pleading guilty in Oxford County Superior Court to a charge of possession of sexually explicit materials.

The Sun Journal ( ) reports that in exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped more serious charges of dissemination of sexually explicit materials.

The 41-year-old Vashaw, a former member of the town’s finance committee and appeals board, was arrested last December following an investigation into online file sharing networks.

Prosecutors say he uploaded more than 1,000 photos of girls between the ages of 6 and 16 engaging in sexually explicit acts.
