EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - An Everett, Washington, man has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, admitting he caused a 2012 crash that killed his 7-year-old son.

The Daily Herald reports (https://is.gd/zKr7W5 ) that little Josiah Alves was riding in the front passenger seat when his father lost control of his BMW and collided with an oncoming minivan.

Prosecutors say 32-year-old John Alves was racing another car at the time. He entered his plea Tuesday in Snohomish County Superior Court. That other driver pleaded guilty to reckless driving and served 30 days in the county jail.

County Deputy Prosecutor Tobin Darrow has agreed to recommend a sentence of just over a year when John Alves is sentenced Jan. 22. He remains out of custody.
