OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have released the names of three people killed when their minivan was struck by a passenger train at a crossing in western Michigan.

State police say Wednesday in a release that 20-year-old Ashley Melson and 19-year-old Justin Mastin were in the van being driven Tuesday afternoon by 21-year-old Joshua Cartwright.

Witnesses says the van drove around other vehicles stopped outside the crossing gates in Oshtemo Township when it was hit by an Amtrak train traveling about 80 miles per hour. The van was pushed about a mile along the tracks.

The train was heading to Detroit from Chicago. No train passengers were hurt.

Police say crossing gates, lights and bells were operating at the time of the crash, which occurred west of Kalamazoo. The victims were from Kalamazoo.
