MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Minot officials are taking aim at backyard target shooting.

A City Council committee has directed the city attorney and police chief to draft an ordinance restricting projectiles. The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1p6uPD8 ) the ordinance would restrict the use of arrows and BB pellets to qualified shooting ranges.

Police Chief Jason Olson says it’s a matter of public safety. He says the city had an ordinance at one time but it was eliminated years ago for unknown reasons.

Council member Miranda Schuler opposes an ordinance. She cites the concerns of people who safely target practice in their yards.
