LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - An inmate convicted of first-degree murder in the beating and stabbing death of a fellow inmate at the Lawton Correctional Facility is asking a judge to overturn his conviction.

The Lawton Constitution reported (https://bit.ly/107r2tX ) Sunday that 23-year-old Ryan Garcia filed a hand-written note in Comanche County District Court asking that his conviction be overturned for alleged prosecutorial misconduct. Garcia says an inmate who helped dispose of a weapon used in the attack was improperly given leniency and immunity for his testimony in the case.

Garcia was sentenced to life without parole after being convicted of taking part in the June 2011 death of inmate Sonny Limpy. Other inmates testified that Limpy was targeted because he refused to join an effort to unify all Hispanic gangs in the facility.
