RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run wreck in Raleigh that killed two people and injured three others.

A Raleigh Police Department spokeswoman said Sunday that 32-year-old Mateo Guzman-Palacios faces charges that include two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and two counts of felony hit-and-run. He’s also charged with driving while his license was suspended and failing to stop at a red light.

It wasn’t immediately known Sunday if he has a lawyer.

Police say the wreck occurred early Saturday when one vehicle ran a red light and struck another vehicle that was turning. Killed were 24-year-old Brittany Williams of Fuquay-Varina and 18-year-old Naomi Mercury of Wake Forest, who were passengers in the vehicle that was turning.

Three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
