NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A new commander has taken charge of the Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Col. Mike Spraggins was installed Saturday as commander during a ceremony at Camp Robinson. He takes over from Col. John “Mickey” Stewart.

Spraggins told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1rNMMkv ) that he plans to have the brigade train locally to save money. Instead of going to Fort Chaffee or another location, the unit will train in North Little Rock and work with public and private landowners to train on their land.

Spraggins is from Hot Springs and most recently served as deputy commanding officer to Stewart. He has served in Iraq and is also principal of Bismarck High School.
