LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A poetry group from the northeastern United States is set to appear at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The Strivers Row Poets will conduct “spoken word performances” at the Nebraska Union at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13. The event is free for UNL students with valid NCards and $5 for the public. It’s sponsored by the University Program Council and the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services.

In addition to being poets and artists, the members of Strivers Row are scholars. Many have graduated from Ivy League universities such as Yale and Princeton. Several are working toward doctorates in English or areas pertaining to current social issues.

The group has toured the country to present stories of racial discrimination, homophobia and poverty.
