BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (AP) - One person was killed and another was seriously injured when a car crashed on a central New Jersey highway.

But it’s not yet known what caused the single-car accident, which occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday on Route 22 West in Bridgewater.

Authorities say the driver, a 30-year-old Somerville man, was trying to change lanes when he lost control of the car. He was then ejected from the vehicle when it spun and struck a utility pole.

The other person in the car, identified only as a 34-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to a hospital, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.
