FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado State University’s Athletic Department has formally recommended construction of a multi-sport stadium on campus instead of renovating the existing football stadium three miles west of the school.
The Fort Collins Coloradoan reported Thursday (https://tinyurl.com/l8bocb3 ) the university’s facilities department, a community advisory committee and a campus leadership advisory committee also recommended a new stadium.
Cost estimates for a new stadium range from $180 million $225 million, depending on seating capacity.
The university has said it would cost at least $36 million to maintain the existing Hughes Stadium for 10 years and at least $149 million to renovate it to last 30 to 40 years.
University President Tony Frank is expected to make a recommendation to CSU Board of Governors at a Dec. 4-5 meeting in Denver.
