GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A 58-year-old man accused of setting a Gillette motel on fire with about 60 people inside in September is scheduled for an arraignment hearing Wednesday.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/1xY5z2o ) a judge has ruled there’s enough evidence for James Pearson’s case to move forward. The Casper man is facing charges of aggravated arson and attempted first-degree murder.

Court documents say he and a woman smoked methamphetamine together, and he wanted her to have sex with him in return. She refused and got away.

Investigators say he then came to the room where she was staying at the Rodeway Inn and told her friend “no one is going to walk away from this without being paid.”

The woman told investigators she later smelled smoke and discovered an “intense” fire in the hallway.
